Request for Expression of Interest: External Evaluators
Introduction
The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) is a social impact organization operating in the climate space, committed to supporting micro and small enterprises and driven by innovation. KCIC provides incubation, capacity-building services, and financing to Kenyan entrepreneurs and new ventures that are developing innovative solutions in renewable energy and energy efficiency, water management, agribusiness, waste management, and commercial forestry in a bid to address climate change challenges.
KCIC is implementing ‘Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition(SWIFT)’, a three-year programme targeting to support 110 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the waste management sector in Kenya. Funded by the IKEA Foundation, the program’s primary objective is to transform the waste management sector through innovative business models that embrace the principles of circular economy.
The SWIFT program is in the 2nd year of implementation, having supported 57 enterprises in the 1st year of implementation. The program has rolled out a second call for application targeting to on-board 53 waste management enterprises in Kenya. To date, the call has received 431 plus applications and closed on 30th April 2025.
Call for Applications Screening
KCIC is issuing a call for expressions of interest from relevant ecosystem players and stakeholders to participate in an external review process. The selected evaluators will be responsible for overseeing the final list after the physical due diligence to ensure that the review process was transparent,fair, and that quality clients are onboarded into the program.
The external evaluators should meet any of the following criteria:
♦ Be an ecosystem player within the Waste Management sector.
♦ Have a background working with SMEs and startups in the Waste Management sector in Kenya.
♦ Experience working with a business incubator or accelerator in Kenya.
♦ Experience financing SMEs and startups in the Waste Management sector in Kenya.
Selected evaluators will be expected to declare any conflict of interest prior to undertaking the evaluation process.
