• Agribusiness
  • Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency
  • Water Management
  • Waste Management
  • Commercial Forestry

We support enterprises that are developing innovative agricultural technologies in order to make them viable and in turn improve the efficiency of small-scale farmers. Each year we are looking for agribusiness ideas offering climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions, including improved inputs to increase productivity, enhance diversification of production systems and improved livelihoods.

Any agribusiness idea falling under any of the following criterial is considered:

  • Resilient crops/seeds
  • Climate friendly/energy efficient agricultural machinery
  • Energy efficient irrigation
  • Energy efficient food processing
  • Climate friendly inputs/alternatives for example pesticides, fertilizers, grain drying and other field operations.

We support MSMEs in this sector to realize available opportunities and thrive in their industries by working with policy makers to create an enabling regulatory framework. We also support innovations that offer sustainable solutions to the use of high volume of energy by providing alternatives of reducing energy wastage both at domestic and industrial levels. Our focus is on the following:

  • Off-grid technologies – Solar PV, biogas, biomass and wind
  • Micro-hydro – Domestic and rural mini-grid use
  • Bio-energy – Bio-gasification, bio-diesel, biomass power and heating

We support innovations in water and water products to match the growing demand for clean, pure and safe water availability in Kenya. We admit clients working on any idea meant to address the water stress occasioned by climate fluctuations. Our focus on water management is on sustainable interventions based on integrated systems approaches using efficient technologies such as:

  • Solar filtration
  • Desalination
  • Water harvesting
  • Efficient irrigation
  • Biotechnology
  • Wastewater reuse and recycling

We support enterprises that come up with innovations and technologies in recycling and disposal of different forms of waste products. In this sector we look for innovative business ideas that cut through the whole aspect of waste management which includes generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing and disposal of both solid and liquid waste. Possible models could be around:

  • Practical segregation at source through waste separation. This can involve communities.
  • Practical ways that reduce waste toxicity
  • Upcycling waste materials to reusable products
  • Recycling waste into reusable products
  • Converting waste to energy
  • Focusing on economic ways of composting waste ·     Reducing waste generation

We support innovations that bridge the wood-gap through responsible forestry harvesting, afforestation and re-afforestation while reducing the felling of trees. The business could be modelled around the following ideas:

  • Marketable tree or tree products farming. This can involve communities.
  • Tree species that do well in Kenya for commercial purposes
  • Trees grown for commercial purposes through sale
  • Sustainable practices in forest management and harvesting ·    Utilization of technology for forest monitoring
