The Green Economy Youth Activation Programme

The Green Economy Youth Activation Programme (GrEYAP), developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), seeks to strengthen youth-led businesses in the forestry and agroforestry sectors by equipping them with the skills and support needed to establish and manage sustainable enterprises. The project prioritizes vulnerable youth groups and micro-enterprises, aiming to foster both climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.

In 2022, 40 youth-led businesses in forestry and agroforestry were selected to receive six months of support. Beneficiaries gained access to business advisory services, technical training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help scale their enterprises. The project addresses key constraints along the forestry value chain by supporting both primary actors, such as growers of seedlings, producers of timber, poles, firewood, and charcoal and secondary actors, including those engaged in value addition like furniture making, joinery, fibre boards, prefabricated housing, and non-timber products such as honey, fruits, resins, and essential oils. By enabling enterprises to thrive in these value chains, GrEYAP contributes to sustainable job creation, wealth generation, and climate mitigation and adaptation.
