Provision of Technical Mentorship Services in Waste Management for the SWIFT Incubation & Acceleration Programme

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) provides holistic, country-driven support to accelerate the development, deployment and transfer of locally relevant climate and clean energy technologies. The KCIC provides incubation, capacity building services and financing to Kenyan entrepreneurs and new ventures that are developing innovative solutions in renewable energy, agribusiness, water management, waste management and commercial forestry to address climate change challenges. KCIC is implementing ‘Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition (SWIFT)’, a three-year programme targeting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the waste management sector in Kenya.  Funded by the IKEA Foundation, the programme’s primary objective is to transform the waste management sector through innovative business models that embrace the principles of circular economy. The mentorship programme will serve the objectives outlined below; ● Enhance technical proficiency in waste management practices. ● Promote the adoption of best practices in waste collection, sorting, and disposal. ● Facilitate the implementation of effective recycling techniques specific to the waste management sector. ● Improve operational efficiency in waste handling and management. ● Increase knowledge and awareness of sustainable waste management solutions. ● Support the development and implementation of waste reduction strategies. ● Foster innovation in waste recycling and reuse methods. ● Strengthen the capacity of the enterprises to comply with environmental regulations and standards. ● Encourage the use of environmentally friendly technologies and processes. ● Guide effective waste segregation and material recovery. ● Enhance skills in resource management and optimization. ● Support the establishment of partnerships and collaborations within the waste management sector. The SWIFT Mentorship Programme seeks to foster the growth and sustainability of SMEs in Kenya's waste management sector by enhancing their technical skills, strategic business planning, and market access, thus promoting innovative business models that align with circular economy principles and climate-smart practices.
