CLIMATE ORIENTED PARTNERSHIPS IS THE WAY TO GO

The recent collaboration and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya Climate Innovation Center and Youth Enterprise Development Fund to promote youth entrepreneurship through climate friendly ventures should be applauded and replicated by other players in the business industry.

Whereas the primary ideology of any enterprise is to maximise on profits, there should also be an element of climate intervention to support the global goals that are geared towards climatic changes regulation. Most of the Global Sustainable Development Goals have been centered around climate change with an aim to improving the quality of life and making the world more resilient.

Using modern ways of running businesses by circumventing pollution and investing in energy sources that can not be depleted needs to be encouraged as ways of enabling this. Businesses thus should attempt to adopt green energy while entrepreneurs should look into ways of water conservation, effective agribusiness practices and solid waste management as means of curbing pollution.

There ought to be a collective effort by all industries that promote entrepreneurships to ensure that industries do not affect climatic trends negatively. Such a partnership between Kenya Climate and Youth Fund is therefore welcome as it will facilitate such trades. The world has in recent times experienced adverse changes in climatic drifts, most notably in Kenya where we have come to the middle of the year without experiencing any substantial amount of rain.

It is a worrying trend because as such the future is not warranted. The challenges of drought and famine are gaping at us should there be no urgent mechanisms to promote food security. The Kenya’s Big Four Agenda and other related regulations may not yield optimum outcomes without developing key partnerships with institutions that address similar challenges.

It is a communal duty that calls for bringing together all systems and individual efforts because the challenges being addressed are also time bound. The globe ay soon pour down its wrath if we do not counter the already done cluttering of the environment with pollutants. Our future in this world is solely dependent on how well we nurture the environment.
